Faith is intended to give us the wisdom and power to walk through life's hardest times, not just to get rid of those times. Hard times are the canvas upon which God paints a life purpose of victory.God's purpose for life's trials can bring us into our finest hour. But we need to learn to let Him make us before He will send us. The trial is never about the trial. By faith we learn to find something worth dying for, and then we will have found something worth living for.

When the man visiting our church died in the back pew, he said that he heard the battle for his soul. What ought to be encouraging to you is that he said he also heard the prayers! Years later, as I told this story, I asked if anyone would like to see someone come back from death. Then I asked if anyone there would like to volunteer! My real question today is if you would like to continue learning how your prayers can be actually heard in heaven with results seen on earth.

Believing God became something that was not an option for me. It became a tool in God's hand to develop character as He led me through the valley. When Jesus 'saw' the faith of the man being lowered through the roof to get to Him, He responded with a declaration of forgiveness and healing. So it is with us. When He sees faith that has developed character, He responds with all that we need - sometimes to overcome, sometimes to deliver from, but always to glorify Him. Visible character is far more important than verbal confession.

Until, by faith, we can love those who we suspect of corruption, and until we can somehow be led to demonstrate that love, we’re not going to win the battle that we are in. What's in the hearts of men will never change through activism, political battles, or debates. Faith is a tool in God’s hands to bring us to a place to glorify Him, more than it is a tool in our hands to get God to do what we want Him to do. As we'll see later this week, this is the kind of faith that raised a man from the dead!

If this is my life purpose, why is it so hard getting there? Don't let the struggle define you. The victory at the end will define your identity. God let Israel's slave masters, the Egyptians chase them, not to defeat them, but so that they would learn how to lead their future enemies to their defeat. They would need to learn to trust God, because faith defines the way to His people's purpose and identity.

I learned this from literally sitting on a rattle snake! "There they were in great fear where no fear was." Ps. 53:5 Learning to handle the fears that life presents comes with both knowing God's promises and taking them out into the field of battle. God allows storms for many reasons, among them - to show us how to overcome them, not to fear them.
